Just Because...

I Dig This

An "improvement" of Wolfmother's "White Unicorn" video, takes me back to the 70's (not that I've ever been there). Pretty good album, too; I'd like to check these guys out in concert.

Coolin' In My Six Fo'...

Got a little creative, and bored, last night and put together a little hip hop chill mix cd to enjoy in the car with the windows down or sitting on the deck, relaxing with a couple of beers. Some old, some new, and one classic; here's the track list (when I have time I'll actuallly fool around with the crossfading):

  1. Atmosphere - "Sunshine"

  2. Little Brother - "The Way You Do It" (Remix)

  3. Common - "Drivin' Me Wild" ft. Lily Allen

  4. J. Dilla - "Crushin' (Yeeeeaah!!)"

  5. Ghostface - "You Know I'm No Good" ft. Amy Winehouse

  6. Blackalicious - "Make You Feel That Way"

  7. Swollen Members - "Put Me On" ft. Everlast

  8. Pete Rock - "It's A Love Thing" ft. C.L. Smooth

  9. The Roots - "Baby" ft. John-John

  10. Little Brother - "Ladies' Jam"

  11. J. Dilla - "Love" ft. Pharoahe Monch

  12. Moka Only - "Sitting On The Porch" ft. Madchild

  13. Aceylaone - "Moonlit Skies"

  14. Talib Kweli - "Lonely People"

  15. Kanye West - "We Can Make It Better"

  16. J. Dilla - "Won't Do"

  17. The Roots - "Long Time" ft. Peedi Peedi & Bunny Sigler

  18. Masta Ace - "Beautiful"

  19. Pete Rock - "Appreciate" ft. C.L. Smooth

Common - "Finding Forever"

The first "must get" hip hop album of 2007, Common's "Finding Forever" is just a great, head nodding record. Produced by Kanye West, J.Dilla, and DJ Premier, the album flows from start to finish, with my particular favorites being "Drivin' Me Wild" with Lily Allen (yes, that Lily Allen) and "The Game," the track produced by Primo (and you instantly know it's a DJ Premier track). The first is a summer chill song, the other is a bragadocious, punch you in your mouth type song.

Common has been one of my favorite mc's for a while, from his squeaky voiced days as Common Sense to the mature rapper we have today (and yes, "Electric Circus" was terrible. Blame Eryka Badu). He's got a great flow, voice and the ability to write creative lyrics (and an upcoming hit movie "American Gangster); combine that with some of hip-hop's greatest producers and you have one outstanding album.

The White Stripes - Live At The Patriot Center, 7/28

Well, I finally got to see them, had a great time, and it was a very good show. What kept it from being great was that there seemed to be either audio or monitor problems that really kept the band from flowing from song to song, but all-in-all I enjoyed myself tremendously. I haven't been to a bang your head, loud, in your face concert in a while and that's what we got from Jack and Meg. They played most of their hits, I love hearing "Death Letter" live and wished they played "Let's Build a Home." The opening act, Dan Sartain, was pretty good, mix of bluesy/rockabilly/punk rock and definitely a good sound before the Stripes took stage.

Next up, Kings of Leon in October at Ram's Head Live. They'll also be at The 9:30 Club for two nights in September, tix on sale soon. Now I just hope The Black Keys go on tour. What about you, any must see shows on the horizon?

Flight of the Conchords

I highly recommend that you check out the episode from this past Sunday called "Bowie." Absolutely hilarious, from the songs to the David Bowie impersonation dream sequences (3 total: 1972 Bowie, 1980 Bowie, and 1986 Bowie). Had me laughing hysterically.
