It's Back! Old School Song of the Week

EPMD - "So What Cha Sayin'" Bucket hats, the bozack, Redman, Keith Murray, K-Solo, Das EFX, and trading rhymes. That's what Erick Sermon & Parrish Smith, aka Erick & Parrish Making Dollars aka Erick & Parrish Microphone Doctors aka EPMD have given hip-hop, not to mention several classic songs, none more classic than the OSSOTW, "So What Cha Sayin'." Dropped in 1989 on the duo's second album, Unfinished Business, this song became an instant classic, using a sample from Funkadelic's "One Nation Under a Groove," and "put heads to bed, straight out the box."

The self-proclaimed "brothers from Brentwood, Long Island," Erick and Parrish burst onto the scene in 1988 with their classic album "Strictly Business," hitting people in the mouth with their heavy sampling of classic funk and soul songs, as well as their signature style of verse/rhyme trading. "Thirty days later, the LP went gold" and EPMD got back to business with "Unfinished Business," selling over 500,000 albums and reaching star status in the hip-hop world. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite groups, it is my pleasure to give you this:

Big Game Tonight

vs.

Big SEC matchup tonight, as my Georgia Bulldogs (16-9, 7-5) travel to Oxford to face the SEC West leader Ole Miss Rebels (17-9, 6-6). Both teams are currently on the bubble and trying to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive; and while this game doesn't have the appeal as other games, it looms large for both teams and for the SEC tournament seedings. UGA is fighting to finish second in the conference, guaranteeing them a much needed bye in the first round of the tournament while Ole Miss is tied with Bama and Mississippi State and only one game ahead of Arkansas.

Sundiata Gaines has unquestionably been the Dawgs' leader this season but will have to fill the need of a scorer since Mike Mercer went down with a torn ACL. JUCO transfer Takais Brown has provided a huge lift in the front court and the Dawgs need a big game from his as well. I don't know much about Ole Miss other than they have a pretty good player in Clarence Sanders, who is leading the team in scoring at 16.3 ppg. So it could be an interesting battle of guards, Gaines vs. Sanders.

The Faces

Serious question here: How great of a band would these guys have been had they been able to stay together? I love their stuff, just some good, solid, funky rock n roll and Stewart is a great front man. Raspy, bluesy voice with some hard, raw guitar licks by Ron Wood and steady drumming by Kenny Jones. Awesomeness.

And you know, the Brits seriously have us beat in quality musicians and bands. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Elton John, Clapton, Black Sabbath to the current group of pop stars, Lilly Allen, Joss Stone, and Amy Winehouse (more on them later). Hell, Jimi Hendrix went over there to claim his fame.

Tracks such as "Stay With Me," "Ooh La La," "& Bad N' Ruin" are their most well-known, but for your viewing pleasure, I give you this outstanding diddy: (You Know) I'm Losing You -

It's Been A While...

I figured why not give this one more shot. Believe it or not, I have had a few requests to resume posting, as well as a few "what the hell happened to your blog?" questions. It may not be good, it may not be frequent, but it's mine.
